GOOD POTATOES ARE WORTH GOOD MONEY (Continued from page 10.) ter stand. "Careful culture to keep the weeds down is essential, but late, deep culture and the use of a planker is probably detrimental to the crop. - -Advantage to Bo in Market at All Timet "Many western Oregon farmers are greatly handicapped by the lack of sufficient storage facilities so that they can grade and handle their potatoes and store them ef ficiently. Better storage houses are very much needed in many potato growing districts. Folks with storage can grade and sell when 'the market is' good. "It was set forth at the confer ence at the college last year that one of the big problems solved now is the potato grading prob lems. Graded potatoes are find ing a very satisfactory market at this time. Labeled graded potatoes are in demand. As farmers learn to grow potatoes to meet the grades and learn to grade potatoes properly, the Willamette valley potato business will again develop into an important industry. World Record With Oregon Seed Oregon grown Biirbank seed was used in making the. world's record potato yield. It was made in 1924, in the delta district of San Joaquin' county,- in beaver dam or peat land, on the Itindge farm. The yield was 57,752.75 pounds of Burbank potatoes per acre Hob.o bushels. Tne previ ously recorded largest yield was obtained fn England 53,760 pounds or 856 bushels per acre.
