The exact depthr of the Sierra mountain snow is a reckoning to farmers and others interested in next year's water conditions. Heretofore several trips have been made by rangers to obtain this in formation. . Colonel John R. White, superin tendent of the park ordered a giant standard erected on Alta Pak. A six Inch telescope was installed in the Alder Creek sta tion. The standard is marked with cross-arms . and the number of notches not covered by the Bnow is easily dlscernable from the sta tion, eleven miles from the peak, through the glass.
