Volume of Contracts Award

Washington. D. C. (Special.)

corrtinj; to a statistical study just
completed Ijy the Associated Gen

dication that the. unusually strong
demand for new structures has
not yet ceased is found in the
large number of contracts recent
ly awarded and in the unprece
dented volume of "cold weather
operations being carried on this
winter.
The volume of contracts award
ed during the first 11 months of
1926 was 8 greater than the
corresponding volume registered
in 1025, the :ear which previous
ly held all records. More immed
iately, Die greatest volume of con
tracts erf awarded during the
month ot November was estab
lished two months ago. This con
dition indicates a large amount of
construction work has been plan
ned during recent weeks.
New records for volume of con
struction under way in November
and December were set during the
last two months of 1926, indicat
ing that the impetus behind con
struction work will project itself
Into 1927.
An index which sets the 1913
average at 100 as its basis, shows
the volume of contracts awarded
during November to have held
the 21 (y level. The corresponding
figure for November, 1925, was
203. '
