An egg was "tried." a small cannon was fired, a j practical hammer was made from mercury, and a gold fish was f i ozen into a cake of ice, as some of the stunts made possible by the use of the liquid air. Steps were taken at the noonday luncheon cf the chamber of com merce" on Monday which will guar antee the building and operation of a cannery in this city luring the eiiMiing season. '" At the regular meeting of the chamber of commerce a special committee, previously: appointed to make an investigation of the' situation, presented their report. Thi.s special committee consisted cf M. F. Corrigan. B. A. Klike and W. S. Link. , On behalf of the committee. Mr. Corrigan gave a brief review' of the situation, and presented figures showing the amount of fruit and ruts that had been handled at this point during the past two years, and also pre sented the recommendations of the committee and other business men for consideration by the local chamber, which were briefly as follows: That the chamber of commerce sponsor and support a plan to acquire a suitable location having access to proper shipping facilities, and erect thereon a building suitable for canning fruits on a modest scale, and also to care for fresh fruit shipments from this point, and provide facil ities for walnut drying, which in the past few years has become quite a factor. At the present time there is a cannery plant located here, but Ps present owners do not show any disposition to operate it, and their present intentions are, unknown, except that they will not rent or lease the plant.
