Hodges Resigns as County
YMCA Secretary, to Move
. Albert It. Hodges yesterday re
signed the post of Marion county
YMCA secretary which he has held
since July, coming here from Port
land. The resignation was a com
plete surprise, as he had given no
previous intimation ' of the move.
Hodges will go to Portland to
engage in other work. He had
been very successful with county
YMCA work, here during his brief
connection with it.

Douglas Maclean In Comedy-Romance

nothing on Douglas MacLean.
judging from the funmaker's
laughable predicament in his new
Paramount comedy, "Hold That J
Lion," which starts showing at the
Elsinore theatre today for a three
day run.
In a laudable endeavor to prove
himself a hero in the eyes of the
one and only girl, the redoutable
MacLean joins what he mistakenly
believes is a "cat" hunting expe
dition. When he discovers that
the "cats" are not the familiar
and harmless household pets but
wild, man-eating lions, it is too
late to withdraw.
As matters turn out. instead of
MacLean hunting the lions, the
lions hunt MacLean. The results
are Just as funny and exciting as
one would imagine. In the end,
the comedian, has the last laugh
on the animals, for he succeeds in
capturing a live lion, though in a
decidedly unorthodox manner.
The lion hunt is merely the cli
max of a long series of mirth-pro
voking adventures, which begin
in New York when MacLean falls
in love with a charming blonde.
Unfortunately, ' the girl starts a
round-the-world trip before he
can propose, but he manages to
catch up with her in Africa. There
after the complications pile up
with amazing rapidity, attaining
hilarious- and cyclonic proportions
during the lion hunting episodes.
Although MacLean's is the out
standing performance, the mem
bers of the .supporting cast cotne
in for a share of credit. 'Walter
Hiers proves an admirable foil for
the exuberant Douglas. Constance
Howard makes a particularly at
tractive heroine. Cyril Chadwick,
Wade Boteler and George Pearce
fit their respective roles splendid

Dr, Canse Speaks at Cham
ber of Commerce Meet,
Budget $20,000
Business and religion now go
hand in hand, according to Dr.
John M. Cause, president of tbe
Kimball School of Theology, in an
address yesterday before the Sa
lem chamber of commerce, in
which he discussed the value of
the Kimball School to Salem as a
civic enterprise.
Kimball's graduates, who go as
preachers to all parts of the
Northwest, are. among the best
boosters . for Salem, said Dr.
Canse. He . gave several instances
in which the church has served as
a community supporter.
Kimball's budget for the com
ing year is $20,000, Dr. Canse
stated. The college is being im-
proved to give a dormitory and
club room for men, and economy
is needed to meet he cost.

Roost" for Salem House
Mrs. Frank Minto has purchas
ed the Salem restaurant and open
ed it yesterday with a record first
day patronage. As proprietor of
the "Chicken Roo'st," a highway
inn several miles out of Salem
on the Jefferson road. Mrs. Minto
achieved local fame for tbe high
quality of the foods served. A
number of her former patrons are
congratulating her on coming to
town and themselves. In now be
ing able to ettjoy her meals with
less loss of time. Mrs. Minto will
.discontinue the "Chicken Roost"
for the "present and devote her
entire time to the personal super
vision of the new restaurant. She
expresses herself as being highly
pleased at the number of friends
who have sought her out the first
day in the new quarters.
