MM JUDGE
Mary Jane Spurlin Speaks on
"People With Vision"
. at Banquet ;
By K1XA OARFTEM
The oustanding feature of the
business and profesisonal women's
banquet &t the Gray Belle last
night was the. gripping talk by
Judge Mary Jane Spurlin of the
district court of Portland.
The ' key-note of , her talk was
"People With Vision" which sub
ject she covered with rapid-fire
facts" and convincing logic, citing
outstanding- examples, from the
dawn of history to the present day
of those who. by large vision;
have accomplished great things in
the commercial, educational and
political world; the arts and sci
ences, and in exploration, Inven
tion and discovery.
She referred to our boundless
national resources and rapid de
velopment, and to the vital need
for clear vision, deep thinking,
and clean living for the preserva
tion of the institutions upon which
our government is .founded.
"In the dark days of the Civil
war, when the republic faced dis
aster, they had Lincoln, with
clear, profund purpose who
brought the nation through a wild
erness of conflict and division, and
we now stand In the van of IlHe.
world's civilisation nd progress,
which let -us steadfastly continue
to preserve." . ,-. . - .
Judge gpurlln made a strong
plea for that business and profes
sional women maintain high stan
dards of efficiency in theit work,
and tor their alert interest in pro
motion of the highest welfare of
that state and nation. -' ' . .'
Accompanying Judge Spurlin ,to
Salem was Alma Brlcknase, a
Portland teacher, also a dinner
guest of the club.
