The expected fight over accep tance of the records themselves 9 5-10 seconds for the century by Paddock and 20 5-10 seconds for the furlong by Locke failed to materialize. Both were ratified without-objection but it was only after spirited debate that the con vention voted to taboo, after next Jan. 1, the type of watches that registered these performances and to re-adopt, as official, the fifth second time pieces. .There are international compli cations to this battle of split sec onds.
