About a Hundred in Classes
Last Year," and Perhaps
More for This Year .
. Many Salem people, mostly
women, are learning to make bas
kets and other wicker work. About
100 were in the classes of last
year, taught by L. B. Dunsmor, of
the Salem Wicker Furniture
Manufacturing company, 2218
state street.
There are already Tuesday,
Thursday and Friday evening
classes,' with 36 ' members.. Mr.
DUnsmoor is now organizing
Wednesday evening classes, Per
haps there will be two of them.
Beginners will be taken Wednes
days.
There is a class organizing at
Napavine, Wash., and asking for
Mr. Dunsmoor to instruct them,
on Saturday evenings.
The adult blind school at Port
land had a representative to see
him a few days ago, about teach
ing basketry there. He has
helped in getting classes started
at the state tuberculosis hospital
here, and the Portland teachers
want to get him to . help in the
same work. Looks like busy times
ahead for Mr. Dunsmoor.
His work is under the state and
federal vocational boards, and
half the tuition is from the state
and government funds. This
makes the fees for learners in his
classes small.
Mr. Dunsmoor is also doing a
lot of work for Portland people,
in furniture making, as well as for
many other outsjde places. He is
bringing a lot of outside money
to Salem.

The new United States flag andj
the iffew post .flag of Marion post;'

seen last night for the first time
by members of the post and de
clared to be the finest examples
of their kind In the state. ;
The flags were embroidered by
the vocational education depart

give some, idea of the work this
department is doing under the su
pervision of the superintendent of
public, instruction. The post flag
has the cross of Malta embroider
ed on one side and state seal on
the other. -
Marion post' introduced the uni
form street flag decoration in Sa
lem whereby each merchant has
his own flag and standard to dis
play on proper occasions, and it is
the hope of the post that new
merchants will avail themselves of
the opportunity to get uniform
flags before Armistice day. Henry
