He claims to have had the deer killed and dressed within an hour of leaving camp. James Whlford' Visits - ' James Whlford, 99. of Forest Grove, visited Salem Monday. His father lived to be 108 and he ex pects to exceed that record. Bonds Certified The state irrigation securities commission today certified to $140,000 of bonds issued by the Medford irrigation district for de velopment purpopew. The total bond Issue of this district is $1, 260,000. State guarantee' of ln: terest was not authorized bythe board. The commission also cer tified to $35,000 of bonds issued by the Squaw Creek irrigation dis trict near Sisters, and $5,000 of bonds for the North Fork irri gation district in Hood'River comi ty. -Requests for certification of bonds presented by the Lone Pine and Summer Lake irrigation dis tricts were rejected." Means, supported by United States Sena tor Phipps for the republican nom ination tor United States senator 2,048 to 1,456 from 67 precincts. In the republican gubernatorial race John'F. Vivian, supported by Phipps was leading former Gov ernor Oliver H. Shoup, supported by Hamlin 2,038 to 1,662 in 74 of 1,591 precincts. Carl S. Milli- ken was third with 567. In the democratic senatorial race, former governor W. E. Sweet was leading Paul -Prosser 866 to 605, while Frank J. Hayes was third with 242 in.76 precincts. State Senator Adams was lead ing S. W. Johnson 1,101 to 518 in the democratic gubernatorial race in-67 precincts. BALTIMORE, Md., Sept. 15. Shortly before 2 a. m., with 539 of Maryland's 1,184 precincts re ported, Representative John Phillip Hill was leading United States Senator O. E. Weller for the republican senatorial nomina tion by only 523 votes In the state wide count,, but the close vote in the counties indicated that Weller was more than holding his own in convention strength, Votes in the state convention are . cast by county units, making it possible for Hill to maintain a majority in the state wide count and yet loose the nomination through loss of the majority coun ties , MONTPELIER, Vt., Sept. 14. United States Sen ator Edwin S. Broussard tonight had a lead of 1822 votes over for mer Governor Jared Y. Sanders for the democratic senatorial nom ination in today's primary. The vote fr,om 524 out of 1313 .preH cmcts gave Broussard 4 5,629 and Sanders 43,807. ALBANY, N. Y.. Sept. 14. Early returns from today's prim ary election in' New York state indicated that at least three, re publican members of congress won renomination in the face of eon1 tests. The Victors were Nathan PerlmaiC 14thr district. (Man hattan): Frank Crowther, 30th district, and Gale H. Staker, 3tth district. Representative Perlman defeat ed Bertram Hopper; Frank Crow ther defeated E. Watson Gardiner, wet, who sought nomination in both the republican and democrat ic primaries, and Representative Stalker, dry, defeated Edwin L. Svens, wet. There was a republican over turn in the 34th district, where J. D. Clarke defeated Harold S. Tol- ley. Two years ago Tolley de feated Clarke for renominiaton. . OTTAWA. S6pt. 15. fAP). Arthur Meighen, conservative pre mier of Canada, went down to de feat in his own constituency of Portage La Prairie; Man., in yes terday's parliamentary elections, while his bitter political opponent, former Prime Minister W. L. Mac-Kenxie-King, leader of the liberal party, was re-elected in Prince Albert, Sask. Early this morning when the liberals were leading .the conserv atives, the returns at hand gave the liberal party 112 members while the seats won by the con servatives, progressives, labor and independent totaled 99. Thirteen other constituencies are still to be heard from. Including Mr. Meighen himself, six members of the government lost their seats. They are E, L. Patnaude, minister of justice; Andre Fautaux. solicitor general; Eugene Paquet, minister of health; Donald Sutherland, min ister without portfolio, and Dr. Raymond Morand, minister with out portfolio. BOSTON, Sept. 14. A close race for the republican nomination for attorney general marked the primary today. The vote for 618 precincts out of 1576 in the state gave: Elijah Adlow 23.585; Alexan der Lincoln J. 6.601; Arthur K. Reading 25,204.
