Jack Demp sey,?hearyweigrbt boxing champion late today was served with a sub poena to appear in Marion, Ind., superior court on August 13 to show cause why he should not be restrained from all ring action pending the clearing up of a con tract he is alleged to have with the Chicago Colisium club. The move was taken to prevent the title bout with Gene Tunney in New York September 16, the Chi cago Colisium club contending in a complaint which also was served ton the champion that It had him under contract to box Harry Wills negro challenger. The hearing on August 13 will be on the question of a temporary injunction. Hearing on the mat ter of a permanent Injunction was set tor September 6. The third of a series of regional hearings con ducted by the interstate commerce commission to study information which would , allow wise legisla tion for controlling motor bus and truck transportation, will be held in Portland Saturday. August 7. The first hearing took place at Chicago, July 27, 2, 29 and the second is now in session at St. Louis. Oregon and Washington bus and truck line managers, highway associations, railroads, and others Interested in highway transporta tion will be represented at the hearing, which will take place at the county court house under the direction of Commissioners Esch and Aitchinson. Alexander and Killefer net only worked well together in the game but were friends off the field. While Alexander's recent slip from grace was due primarily to his discouragement over the kink in his arm, McCarthy's drastic action in the case would indicate also that there had been some feeling between the two before the actual occurrence which prompted the move. Now Alexander joins company with his old catcher- and a man who knows him well. Killefer can do much toward setting Alexander on the right track mentally. Alexander goes down in history as one of the great pitchers cf all time. His control was his. main asset, marvelous much of the time. Over the three-year period, 1915 1917, Alex set up one of the great est records, of baseball history. He was with the Phillies then. In 1915, the year they won the pen nant, he won 31 games and lost 10. The next year he won 33 and Io-st 12. .And the third .year he won 30 and lost 13 games. In other words, a total of 94 victories and 35 defeats over a span of three full campaigns. He served with the Phillies from 1911 to 1918 and then was sold to the Cubs for a cc-uple of players and 55,000. In 1920 he turned in 27 games and lost but 14.
