New:Overland Model Is Most
Comfortable Car to Ride
In, Reports Say '
A study or the 23. important
body dimensions of the sedan
type of body in the. light. ear field
shows that the new Overland
Whippet is larger, in seyen dimen
sions, than any other sedan In its
size class, the equal is 5 dimen
sions and smaller in 10, two of
these ten being the height of the
seats from the floor, giving the
Whippet the advantage of low
seats, one being the width of the
body at the arch bar in front,
giving an acceptable grace of
body line from Qje frame, giving
the low appearance which is a
pleasing asset and the others be
ing minor dimensions which gave
no reference to seating comfort or
riding ease.
The dimensions in which the
Whippet exceeds any other sedan
in the light car class are interest
ing. The total length inside the
body panel is conspicuously
longer than that of any other
light sedan. This accounts for the
striking leg room in both the front
and rear seats. It Is acTomplished
by the "novel-consrnction of the
dash which curves outward under
the hood adding a full six inches
to the available inside body
length.
The depth of the front seat is
another dimension in which the
Whippet exceeds any sedan in its
size class.
The rear compartment is 7 in
ches deeper than that of any other
light car sedan model affording
the same amount of room in the
rear compartment that is found in
the average light six. The rear
seat is also 2 inches wider in over
all dimensions.
The achievement of such di
mensions as these in a car of the
low and compact appearance of
the Whippet marks an important
development in general body de
sign and construction and indi
cates what may be expected from
a type of design which, externally
at least, looks small.
Through a unique and exclusive
design of the steering column, it
is possible to alter the distance
between the edge of the front seat
and the pow point on the rim of
the .steering wheel by three inches.
The heavy man who is ordinar
ily cramped, in the space between
his lap and the edge of the wheel,
can use this adjustment to get a
highly satisfactory amount of
room, while the man who likes

Head room is also a marked
feature of this body. A man of av

HOW TO AVOID CRASHES
(Continued from page 1.)
8. Sound your horn three times
and look before you back your
machine
9. Bear in mind that the other
fellow may not be as bright as
you. Don't count too much on his
intelligence. Lots of weak-minded
people are operating motor ve
hicles. (Jive the other driver the
right of way.
lO. Your horn should be used
a.s a warning signal only. IHm't
try to uw it as a substitute for
your brakes.
.-11. Speeding doesn't pay, as
many speeders have ascertained.
It is better to be a few minutes
late than dead. Death is SO per
manent. 12. You can't crush a train. The
nntomobih Is always the loser in
a crash with a steam railway ve
hicle. The old advice about cross
ing crossings cautiously is still In
style. Remember that the warn
ing bells or other signals supposed
to function at crossings may be
out of order. Tin- watchman may
not be on the job. Trains can't
stop as quickly as your automo
bile. The Electric Restaurant serves
elegant meals and lunches. Try
them; you will come again and
bring your friends. Best in Salem.
