This definitely eliminates the Bankers from the pennant race, -which now lies between the Grotto and the Papermakers. These two teams will play two out of three games for the league title, starting Mon day and Wednesday. The Legionnaires hare shown a decided reversal of early season form in the last few battles, and in theirwin last night played er lorless ball. The cashiers used three pitchers in the fracas, one doing about as well as the others. Sight errors marred the chances of the Bank, although the sol diers hit the ball hard throughout the cbntest. In the first, the Legion scored " seven times on one hit, four walks and three errors, 11 men facing Gessnei and Schnelle, who went in with two away. Catcher Thompson took a foul tip on the knee that sounded like a base hit and bounced to the pitcher's box but he was able to continue the game. The Bankers gleaned their runs, one in the first on two walks and a double, and one in the third on sTwalk, two stolen bases and a single. Getting one run in both the sec end and third, the Legion only tad one blank inning, the fourth The fifth was a repetition of the first, six runs crossing on five bingles, three errors and a walk Every. Legionaire scored at least once and all but three registered twice during the game. Gibson gave a great pitching ex hibition. better even than during his previous game, which received much praise from the fans. He struck out four, passed four and allowed but four safe bits in the contest. The three Bank hurlers amassed the impressive total of eight 'strike-outs, eight walks and 11 ;r't, jfhile their team mates :i!njj, easy outs. for4-the melee: OFFERED FOR FIGHT In Event New York Board Refuses License, Title Bout May Be Transferred iG&brlelson Bishop Gibson Patterson Huston Mason Gill Marr Parker ; i. , Umpires Laird scorer, C. (By As sociated Press. ) Plans for the heavyweight championship fihX between Jack Dempsey, champion, and Gene Tunney at the Yankee stadium September 16 will go on despite the possibility of a hitch in the license committee. At a meeting of directors of the new Madison Square Garden cor poration today, presided over by John T. Ringling, the entire situ ation was discussed but no an nouncement was forthcoming. It is understood that ways and means for holding the contest, should Col. John J. Phelan refuse to' grant licenses when he returns from his national guard camp at Peekskill, N. Y., were considered. Latrobe Cogswell wired Rickard today that the Baltimore stadium seating 100,000 will be available if the New York proposition falls through. Cogswell is head of the National Boxing association. Rickard also received a tele gram from Dempsey. who said he would arrive in the east some time next week, stopping over in Chi cago for a couple of days.
