Judge Holds Youngster Can
not Be Guilty of Contrib

CHICAGO," Dec. 12. Any aato
jnoblle driver who strikes a child,
six years of age or under, on a
public highway or street is Im
mediately responsible civilly and
criminally for the accident, ac
cording to a decision of the the
Chicago municipal court which
has Just been confirmed.
In that decision it was held
that a child six years of age or
under , cannot be guilty ot any
contributory negligence, inasmuch
as it is not really responsible for
its 'actions, and that the entire
onus of an accident - involving
such a child rests squarely upon
the shoulders of the driver..
One of the effects of that de
cision in Chicago has been to im
press upon the motorist the in
creasing necessity for absolutely
safe driving and it has been re
flected in the increased: use of
non-skid chains to aid in assuring
car control on the slippery streets

The Haarmoaic Balancer is an entirely new ; engineering

Six engine unmatched in freedom from vibratioa at all speeds.
This remarkable feature does not merely dampen -vibration it
prevents vibration. It makes use of ft simple natural law to neu

Before the end of December the
Chevrolet ' Motor company will
establish a new record for the en
tire automotive industry" by attain
ing a production during the year
1925 of more than 500,000 pas-
Benger cars and trucks.
This production for a single
year never before has been ' ap
proached by any other manufac
turer of selective transmission
automobiles. This year Chevrolet
will exceed its previous record
production by 60,000 cars.
The achievement of a half mil
lion production in a signle year
culminates a series of records set
by the Chevrolet Motor company
during 1925. Among these was
the building of the two millionth
Chevrolet which came early in
September from the assembly lines
of the central factory at Flint,
Mich. This record nroduction of
2,000,000 cars has been achieved
by no other manufacturer of three
speed transmission automobiles.
The half million Chevrolet total
for this year represents a greater
number of units than was built
by the company duing the entire
eight years of its existence. Chev
rolet's total production to date is
greater than the number of cars
built by all automobile companies
during the first 20 years of the
industry.
The phenomenal 1923 total, is
the result ot a series of -record
breaking months during which
production consistently remained
far above the previous marks tor
corresponding periods in other
years. Month after month tenta
tive production schedules -proved
inadequate to the requirementCof
the Chevrolet sales department.
Ignoring previous seasonable de
clines, public demand continued
unabated through the autumn ad
into the winter. The tentative
production schedules were increas
ed and the factories than proceed
ed to surpass even the revised
schedules.

ADOPT NEW BRAKES
97 Percent of Cars From
Continent Are Using Four;
Wheel Equipment '
The belief of European car
manufacturers that mechanical
4-wheel brakes provide the moBt
positive braking control was again
emphasized by the exhibits at the
recent Olympia automobile show
in London. Virtually all the cars
exhibited were equipped with 4
wheel brakes, and 97 per cent of
these brakes were mechanically
operated. -
American car builders consider
this significant, as the Europeans
have been experimenting with 4
wheel brakes of all types for mote
than 20 years and this almost uni
versal adoption of mechanical 4
wheel brakes is the result of that
experience.
While' 4-wheel brakes have
only, recently been generally
adopted in America, the same pre
ference for the mechanically oper
ated type is evidenced by stfch
makers as Packard, Pierce-Arrow,
Gardner, Buick, Nash, Cadllac,
Itickenbacker and others. The
giant busses .operated by the Yel
low Cab company and virtually
all taxlcab fleets are also equipped
with 4-wheel brakes of the me
chanical type. ;
.The automobile has a new use
in the American army In the form
of a "transcontinental car.". It is
a Chevrolet touring; and employed
for the rapid transportation of of
ficers during maneuvers.
