strong. There is the age old con
flict between father and son,- be
tween the old and the new, be
tween youth and. age. But the
most . tremendous thing about
"The Ship," is the theme. It will
make you think. It suggests this
idea, this thought. "This . is a
mechanical age., - Machines are
taking the place of human hands,
human minds every day. New
machines The element of the in
dividual, of the man himself is
being elmininated." From .. being
the slave of the. human race ma
chinery Is slowly becoming the
master."
Have you ever thought of that?
Emerson said, "The harm ef the
improved machinery may com
pensate Its good." In the play
one of the characters observes, ''I
don t think machines matter
much. Jack. It's people who mat
ter" Do they? Think it over
Hasn't the advance; of mechanics
in many fields made-man himself
pretty well dispensable. Isn't
there a danger of the general
viewpoint lifting, machinery in
point of importance above human
beings. This is a problem you
may never have thought of be
fore. But it's got to be faced
sooner or later. A solution must
be. found, a solution for each in
dividual. St. John Ervine shows
you the. problem, shows yo-u a
way out.
"The Ship" is civilization, his
tory and love, perhaps you have
asked yourself in certain dark
hours: "hat am I doing in this
world What's the good of me?
What's God got to do with me?
What am I here for?" "The
Ship" will give you answers. You
may not like them, may not agree
with them, but they'll interest.
you just the same. : t
'The Ship" will make you
laugh. You'll find tremendous
inspiration and. pleasure In" the
love story alone. And if you're
one of those people genuinely in
terested in the bigger things in
life. In ideals, you'll find in "The
Snip" something that will bring
clearly before your eyes the
mighty background of . life against
which we all work, live and love.
The committee sponsoring thi3
play is composed of Mrs. George
Alden, Miss Mabel Robertson,
Paul Wallace, Miss . Ethel McGil-
-christ, Professor II. Williston,
Carol S. Dibble, Albert Richard
Wetjen, Professor Rahskopf, ro-
fessor E. T. Brown and rofes-
sor M. E. eck. And this commit
mends "The Ship." They consld
tee heartily endorses and recom-i
er both the play and the actors
eminently satisfactory from every
standpoint, ou may rely absolute
ly on their Judgment. Remember!
