school were subjected to vaccina
tion for small pox Friday, accord
ing to report received here. Rea
son was given that one of the
pupils, Catherine Hutcheon of
1240 South Fifteenth street, had
taken down with the malady and
was quarantined Thursday. The
pupils, as was the case in the other
five schools to undergo . vaccina
tion for the disease this year, were
given the option of being vaccin
oted or of staying out of schoo
for three weeks. Employes at the
local post office are also undergo
ing vaccination as one of them

Boat Moved
The Northwestern, river steamer
owned and operated by the Salem
Navigation company, has been
moved up to the Willamette
slough from its dock at the foot
of Court street. The boat will re
ceive its annual government in
spection this week, and is now
being prepared with that in
view.

yesterday for the purpose of con
ducting inquiries concerning

avian countries. He is the gen
eral agent for the Swedish-American,

Johnson lines. Next summer Mr.
Lidell is planning to make an ex
