It Is a Part of the Rritatioh

First Advised '
Editor Statesman:
It Is my belief that one should
be content to plant flax in com
paratively small acreage, at least
during the first, years. In man
sections of the -valley, and with
many farmers, flax is still an ex
perimental crop.
Prom my own experience the
time of planting seems to be the
most important factor, and I am
of the opinion that the best re
sults will be obtained when the
planting is not later than the first
of April. I am of the opinion
that each farmer must make
rather a close study of his own
land and determine for himself
the soil most favorable for the
crop. , Our experience has been
that we get the best results from
sarrdy-l6am. " ' -
We first planted forty acres,
and . a year later seventeen acres,
but each time without success.
Last year .we planted six acres, be
ing very careful " in the prepara
tion of the seed bed. The plant
ing was finished April first. This
crop was very satisfactory, the
fiber being of good length and
yielding something over two tons
to the acre.
We 'are now satisfied that flax
is a profitable and practical crop,
and have made it a part of our
system of rotation.
