Governor Speaks
J -Walter M. Pierce, governor of
Oregon, was called upon to address
a few remarks to the Chamber of
Commerce at its weekly luncheon
Monday. He declared that the
cooperation epirit for which Salem
is. becoming famous is the handle
to the making best use of the nat
ural resources with which the city
has- been endowed.
Pioneer Club Meets
The "Whitman" club, Presby
terian boy pioneers organization,
met , Monday , night at the local
YMCA. N. M. Finkbiner, the new
leader of the club, conducted the
meeting.
Locomobiles Arrive
The first carload! of Locomo
biles consigned to the R. N. Mc
Donald Auto company arrived in
Salem yesterday. Two or tnese
cars have already been purchased,
one by Frank Bligh. and the oth
er by Mrs. Bligh. The McDonald
company also sold two Marmons
during the week, one going to
Frei Steuslotf of Salem,; and the
other to Dr. Rogers of Albany.

Miss Covington, city librarian,
has sent word that the report con
cerning the ousting of Willamette
students from the city library is
not -founded in fact. ' A report
came in by one of the studenta at
the university that Willamette
students had made so much noise
in the library that the librarian
in charge was . compelled to oust
them, and to Inform Dr. Doney,
president of the institution that
any such disturbance in the future
would mean that the students
would not be permitted the use of
the library in the evening.; The
report was made, after 9 in the
evening and could not he verified
at the library.
