sor reported as they checked in
the car that' the radiator was
scarcely warm. No water was ad
ded during the entire trip, accord
ing to an affidavit sworn to by
both occupants. Examination of
the ; radiator upon arrival at De
troit revealed that less than a pint
could be added.
"We started from Hartford in
a blinding rain," said Campbell.
'As we headed northwest for
Pittsfield, Mass.,- It developed into
one of the most difficult rain
storms to drive through I have
ever encountered. It continued
ceaselessly until ' we reached the
outskirts of Syracuse.
- "But despite the rain we ex
ceeded, over the entire distance,
our schedule of 170 miles every
four hours. The first four we
made in 161 through the constant
rain, including a stop for gaso
line. The second four we made
167, including a wait of nearly 25
minutes to awaken Mr. Evans at
Cazenovia. Between Auburn and
Rochester, N. Y., after the rain
stopped, we clocked ourselves as
actually making 52 miles in one
hour. Continuously we drove the
car as fast as we dared Over the
wet, slippery roads that we en
countered until we were nearly to
Windsor. We tore over! a 13
raile detour near Leamington,
Ont., we towed a car over a 20
mile detour at 45 miles an hour.
The driver of that car was liter
ally almost 'scared to death, but
we explained before we began
towing him that 1 we were ' in a
hurry." ! ;

merce because a large part of the

wrecks and" disabled cars ' on the
highways; it both Oregon and
Washington" and also because it
interferes with the liberty and
right" of the operators to conduct
a private buslriess and enter Into
