wotdiof pulp wood. Nature is constantly providing refores
tation here, and this process will be assisted more in the'fu
tureHhan it has been in the past so there will likely be a
plentiful supply of this wood for all time, and this is the most
prof itable raw supply material now knqwn . v 4

of our showers and sunshine and prolific soil;

that is very largely a Salem enterprise, and has been from the

labor and raw materials are largely distributed here, add

pride in the great plant? Every citizen of Salem would be
fully justified in feeling something of this pride: That sort
of a sentiment would be an asset to Salem. It would help in
advertising! Salem to the world as a city that is far above
the average, in its worth while accomplishments and advan
tages and future prospects, -

Heralded everywhere through the daily press is the
claim of returned prosperity for agriculture. And the truth
about returning prosperity cannot be questioned after com
paring the present economic conditions with those effecting
the farmer at the lowest point of depression, two or three

. Agricultural prosperity, however, , like the. prosperity
which affects every other industry js a matter oL degrees.
To 'say that any industry or business is prosperous simply
because either prices or crops or both are better than form
erly may not mean that even now there is prosperity. Nor
is a grower of farm' products or the manufacturer of goods
prosperous when the cost of delivering, the products or goods
to the consumer leaves little or no margin of profit after the
cost of labor, raw materials and other expenses are deducted,
even though the selling price is high. J
Neither' the farmer, livestock breeder nor any father
producer is prosperous unless he is making more money than
his immediate requiremen

Health Demonstration, asking that
each community select the repre
sentative as another meeting will
be held at the Chamber of Com
merce rooms in the near future.
It is the desire of the committee
that each community and each
county-wide organization should
hay a representative at this meet
ing early next month. Members
of; the committee are Mrs. Mary
Julkerson. Dr. II. H. Olinger and
C. E. Wilson.
But the book, which he has en
titled "The Moral Self," is evi
dently a very excellent one. as
three publishers . have been bid
ding for the right to publish It.
The book waa written with the
view in mind of beinx able to
adapt It to class work. It is orig
inal in almost all of Its aspects,
rather than a re-hashing of the
Ideas of others who have written
upon the subject. i -
Professor Sherman! has two
other manuscripts ready for publi
cation which are to be released
soon. One is entitled VThe Rela
tion Between Herbert Spencer's
and Educational Philoso
phy." The name of the third book
has not yet been determined.
Professor Sherman j has ; been
head of the philosophical depart
ment at Willamette university for
over 10 years, and during that
time he has received offers from
several eastern universities to join
their faculties.-but he has stayed
with Willamette because of the
high ideals It expounds.
