The plant of. the Balem Wood
Manufacturing company is located ,

North Commercial, la the north
ern . part of Salem. The plan!
consists of a small sawmill and
machinery for making" rations
wood products. needed by manu
facturing eoncerci. They make
the wooden plugs for the ( paper,
rolls of the paper mill, supplyng-
largely the wants of this line, of
the Salem paper mill, for addla?
machine paper, wrapping piper,
and otbersnch papers. They make
thes in rather large quantities.
The Salem Wood Manufacturing
company about a year ago put In
a couple of sew roach Ices, one a
dowet machine and the other
toggle machine- making dowel
for furniture manufacturers and
toggles for tent makers.
Do Custom Rawing -They
use up a lot of ash, ma
ple, oak and alder logs, and they -
send a good deal of this lumber
to'the furniture manufacturers of
Portland and elsewhere., when,
their supply exceeds their own
needs. They also do custom saw
ing of both, soft and hard, woods.
They find the supplies of oak.
ash, maple and alder In the Sa
lem district abundant,' especially
the first three. This makes one
wonder why Salem does not secure
furniture factory.

of the Salem city limits on the
north, on Cherry street. It is own
ed by Dulutu people, and A. A.
Good is in charge.

for some time." It has a lot of
limber on hand, which la being;
sold, mostly to the local trade, t

year.
