A big program In which chil
dren who have been enjoying the
two Salem playgrounds will par
ticipate, is being arranged for the
Fourteenth street playground Fri
day as a feature of the closing of
the summer season. Hundreds of
children have spent the summer
in supervised play and other ac
tivities during the few weeks the
playgrounds were maintained. The
closeing exercises hare attracted
hundreds of parents and other In
terested persons. The other play
ground Is located at thei Lincoln
school in South Salem. '
College President Visit
Dr. and Mrs. Clarence W.
Greene and son Paul were guests
of Mr. and Mrs. Fred J. Tooze
and family Sunday afternoon. Dr.
and Mrs. Greene were former
classmates o Mr. and Mrs. Tooze.
Dr. Greene Is president of Albany
college and filled the pulpit of the
First Presbyterian church in this
city on Sunday.

Farmer Is Suicide-
Funeral services were held In
Molalla yesterday for Jesse M.
Austin, farmer, who committed
suicide by shooting himself with
a shotgun Sunday night. Ill
health is said to have caused his
act. He was 61 years old. Be
sides his wife, two daughters and
a son. all .of Molalla, Aus.ln Is
survived by two sisters, one of
whom is Mrs. Ahby Wesley, of
Salem, and one brother.
