. The increase in nuhiber of cattle and sheep to, help feed
the ever growing number of people in the United States must
depend" upon a change in farming, methods, allowing mbre
cattle; and, sheep to be kept on the farms ,i
And in
order to do this there, must be greater diversity
arid more general rotation of crops
I And the most suitable crop of all in a rotation scheme il

a fculti tated crop, - but . it is also one' that ; takes no fertility

Katherlne's . descriptions o f
Mother Graham as "Imagining the

She was all a-twister with ex

"Hare yon heard' about this es

: I did not need Katherlne's sur

It would nerer do to rob Mother

Chicago safety forces recently;
had a round-up of the city's crim
inals and upon checking up round
that some 400 of them are aliens.
It Is proposed to deport them. De
portation can be ordered at any
time within fire years of the
alien's arrival if he is conTicted
of a felony carrying a sentence of
year's imprisonment: Many
good people would regret and op
pose any action to this end, but it
would be Justified, and in a way
It is necessary. The alien who
comes to this country not to work
but to avoid work by breaking the
laws has no business here. Amer
ica is a workshop, not a charitable
Institution. Workers are wel
comed, but criminals , and social
dependents are not.' Deportation
of undesirables is the only way
out of the social problems they
create. It costs money to watcV
them, prosecute them and occas
ionally to imprison them. They
do no good but frequently they do
a great deal of harm. To defend
society against them in the best
and most permanent way is a com
mon duty. Very little sympathy
should be wasted on the alien who
comes here to abuse the hospital
lty and opportunity of a free coun
try, which asks only that a man
be decent. Industrious and honest
in return for liberty, safety and
protection of human, social and
economic rights. '
