A forest fire, tanned by a heavy
-wind, ia headed in the direction
of Mill City, a distance of 10
miles, according to word received
here Wednesday. The fire iff in
the property, of the Silver Falls
Timber company and has been
burning since Monday. A path 10
miles long has been cut through
the , forests by the flames. One
camp has been badly burned and j
three donkey engines destroyed.
Every available employe in the
logging operations of the. Silver
Falls company has been pressed
Into service to fight the further
advance of the fire. Owing to the
heavy wind their efforts so for
have brought but little results.
The Santlam river may stop the
progress of the flames, but It was
believed yesterday the fire would
be carried across the river. ; '
Telephone reports late yester
day .from the. Silver. Falls- com
pany stated that it was possible
"... that the" fire would be under con
trol before this morning, as far
as their property was concerned,
but that it had jumped to, the
holdings of the Silver ton Lumber
company. This is confined to old
slashings and not the green tim
ber, and no damage is reported.
J. W. Ferguson, fire warden, has
a crew of men and are making
rapid headway in extinguishing

fur, here today tore a huge hole In
a wharf and started a blare' that
