RUBBER RESERVE OPENED r
GOODYEAR j COMPANY . WILL
GUARD AGAIXST DECLINE
NEW YORK July 28. Alarm
ed by the recent soaring prices of
crude i rubber, the .Goodyear Tire
& Rubber company announced to-night-the
establishment of a "'spe
cial raw material reserve" of $3,
000.000 'to safeguard 'against, a
possible decline in rubber values.
"Due to restriction of output,"
said Chairman E. G. Wilmer, "the
current cost, ot crude, rubber. Is
very much in excess of the cost of
production, the board of directors
has therefore deemed It. advisable
to appropriate out of the last six
month's , earnings a , 'special raw
material reserve of ,- $3,000,000
partially to provide against a. pos
sible and material decline in crude
J rubber values. This action - Is
taken; notwithstanding, our .pres
ent inventories and commitments
Insure us pur requirements of rub-
bef for the balance of the year at j
prices Considerably under today s
market prices.
The local market price of crude
rubber on July; 22 mounted to a
record high level above $1.20 a
pound. A' sharp curtailment, of
buying at that figure, however.
brought about a decline, "and' tne
price today was back to 96 cents
a pound. ' v 1 ' -, ' 4
Production and : sales, of the
Go6dyear company for the first
half of .1925 were larger than' for
any corresponding period In Its
history.. . ; . ,,..';t . . :
Net ;sales Of the company and I
its . American and foreign' subsidt-
arlea r totaled $94,271,132,' Net
earnings ot the parent compahy,
after charges but before dividends
were $9.Q.li;,407. ' The profit and
