25, nnderstpdy to the leading man
in the play, "White Cargo." was
shot in the shoulder and head 'to
night, by his chorus girl wife in
an'apartment. where he was dining
with two friends.- He was taken
to the Polytechnic hospital in .a
serious condition ' !- -'
Mrs. Davis, known profession
ally as Edith Parker, entered the
apartment as her husband was
dining with Melville Anderson and
Harry Wagstaff Cribble,, play
wright. : : - . - .
"I want to see my . husband
alone." she said. Anderson and
Gribble invited her to dine with
them.' but she again requested-to
see her husband alone, ' Passing
through a kitchenette into a bed
room 'she and Davis held a brief
conversation. - '
A few second later Anderson
and Gribble heard reports of a re
volver. Mrs. Davis returned to
the dining room and, eluding the
two men, ran to the street.
Three detectives in an auto
mobile saw her running, and ac
costed her. ' When they learned
the cause of her flight they ar
rested her and she was held on a
felonious a&aault. The actor was
placed under the care of Dr.
Thomas Russell, who recently op
erated on Earl Sande, the Jockey
