On Accident Fatal v -
Only one of the 679 accidents
reported to the state Industrial
accident commission for the week
ending June 25 proved fatal. This
was Delmar Livengood. offbearer,
Dundee. Of the total number re
ported. 609 were subject. to the
provisions of the compensation
act; 87 from firms and corpora
tions that have rejected the act
and three from public utility cor
poration not subject to the pro
visions of the compensation act.

Uft Fireworks Ban
The ban upon the sale of fire
works will be raised today and
supplies for the Fourth of July
can now be purchased, it is an
nounced by Mayor J. B. Giesy. The
ban remains4 for the shooting or
use of fireworks or firecrackers
prior to July 4, however, and any
one doing such will be subject to
arrest. Unusual weather condi
tions have made fire more hazard
ous and every, precaution is being
taken against the setting or spread
of a blaze."'

Posters announcing that the

ness district. Efforts to have Gov
ernor Pierce proclaim that day a
legal holiday proved fruitless,
though the governor urged that
business men who are Elks or who
have employes belonging to the
lodge, do whatever tney could to
ward attending the convention.

Labor Conditions Better
The demand for fruit pickers
show a slight decline, according
to a report from the local' em
ployment bureau. 1 Friday , the
bureau was short but 100 work
ers, compared to 150 laborers
needed the day before. The urg
ency, for loganberry pickers is not
so great as expected.

Flax Pollers Needed
About 500 men will be needed
to ; harvest the. flax crop, within
the next few days, according to
Robert Crawford,." state flax ex
pert. - The impression that ma
chine pullers would do away with
all hand pulling is false. There
are between 75. and 100 fields in
the vicinity that are too small for
the mechanical pullers and all of
this must be harvested by hand. .

Walter B. Barr, Los Angeles
city police lieutenant, arrived in
Salem last night, and win confer

papers for Dale Williams, arrested
here on telegraphic advice from
