Elks Start Drill
Seventy-five members of the
local Elks lodge turned out last
night for the first preliminary
drill for the big parade to be held
in Portland July 16. There are
275 members of the Salem lodge
who have already signified their
intention, of turning out in full
uniform for the affair. All busi
ness houses may be closed to en
able Salem people, who desire to
attend the national convention.

Ewlng Funeral Held
Funeral services were held in
Portland this week for Mrs. Helen
Macon Ewing, 70, a native of Ore
gon. Of the seven children who
survive, two live in Salem. These
are Archie R. Ewing and Fred C,
Ewing.
