Many Seeking Work

cultural laborers. Of the 35 com
mon laborers, 20 were able to find
employment. Others registering
were 16 farm hands, eight farm

of the 69 applicants were placed.
There were no registrants or de
mands for woods laborers.

Boy Suffers Burns
Victor Cook,' 10,' son. ot Mrs.
Cook, of South, Commercial, is re
covering from severe burns-on an
arm that were received Saturday.
Victor had bathed his arm with
turpentine to relieve pain from
poison oak. A match dropped to
the floor and became ignited. For
getting the inflamable liquid on
his arm, he reached to pick up the
lighted - match. The turpentine
ignited ' and; severely burned his

Dr. Henry E. Chase and Mrs.
Chase were in Salem Saturday, at
the Argo hotel, and may remain
over part or all of today. They
drove up by auto from Los An

Dr. Chase was formerly a practic
ing dentist In Salem. He is a
dentist in Los Angeles now. Her
will look after his 15-acre walnut
