to the latest employment figures.
This is a record for the-industry.
The largest increase has come,
as might e expected. In the De
troit area where the Ford ' Motor
company's -big manufactiiring
plants are located. Here close -to
14,500 ' have been "added to the
employment ltet-since March 1, "J"
The big majority of . workers
are employed.- of course,! at the
Highland Park and , River Rouge
plants. The River Rouge now has
52.800 on its payroll, a! record for
that plant. Highland j Park still
leads all plants with 55,300 em
ployes, though ibis number is con
siderably lower than the peak em
ployment record of 1923 which
was before the transfer of several
thousand men , to. River- Rouge
when the motor ; assembly -and
crank- shaft departments were
moved there. i
Along with the steady increase
in employment in Detroit, due to
greater production demands, there
have been corresponding increas
es at domestic assembly plants un
til the employment rolls for these

State Highway Entrance

BEXD, Ore., June 6-The south
entrance to Bend on The Dalles-
California highway is being'paved
and it is expected -it will be com
pleted by June 15. The north en
trance to the city on the highway
was paved last fall and completion
of the south link will complete the
paving of the highway through
Bend city- limits from north to
