MICHIGAN CITY, Ind., May 30.
(By The Associated Press.) Ed
"Strangler" Lewis, claimant of the
world's heavyweight championship
retaliated for the disputed defeat
Wayne "Big" Munn,; former Ne
braska athlete administered to him
lri Kansas City4 last winter when
he defeated the matman here late
today. -' :
Munn, taking advantage of his
heft and fresh strength took the
first fall from' Lewis In 24 min
utes and 55 seconds, i V
His great size proved more of a
handicap than an advantage in the
remaining falls, however. Lewis
wore him down by the application
of an' even score of headlocks and
took the second fall In 17. minutes
12 seconds. Lewis trotted in; for
the third and deciding fall, while
Munn ambled slowly: down ".the'
aisle, an indication to the know
ing ones that the third' fall was to
be over very quickly. It wag seven
headlocks applied in seven min
utes and 12 seconds that erased
the black mark against Lewis' rec
ord, noted by the. disputed Kansas
City defeat. , j 4
By winning' the match Lewis
eliminated one of the three claim
ants of the championship, while
the field was being further nar
rowed at St. Louis in the contest
between Stanislaus Zybszko and
Joe Stecher. Lewis also took the
ma jor portion of a 130,000 purse
and retained ownership of his
810,000 gold diamond-studded
belt, emblematic, of the heavy
weight championship.

YANKEE STADIUM, NEW
YORK, May. 20. (By Associated

ria. N. Y., became light heavy
weight champion of the world
here tonight by outpointing Mike
McTigue. who gained, the title
from Battling Siki in Dublin three
years ago in a 15 round bout. It
was a case of a slugging youth
meeting a middle aged boxer with
a great defense, j , . ' ." ";j . ...
In the first three rounds Ber
lenbach was the master, but from
the fourth to the seventh It seem
ed as .if McTigue had regained his
championship form. His artful
left was continually in Berlen
bach's face and the Astoria man
seemed unable to penetrate his
wonderfjil covering. J
In the last part of the fight the
youth and strength of Berlenbach
gradually . wore down his ( oppo
nent. In the eighth Berlenbach
cut McTigue's lip with rights to
the head and in tbe next I two
rounds opened cuts over his left
eye and I his ear. . - i
Berlenbach, jTighting the 26th
bout of his professional career,
said after the match that hs had
been unable to attain his best con
dition, claiming; that he had been
threatened with diphtheria while
training. He failed to show lack
of condition once he swung Hnto
action. ; .
The crown transferred tonight
to the dark thatched head of the
former Olympic wrestling cham
pion had been held for only two
years by McTigue, who had lifted
the title from the conqueror of
Georges Carpentier Battling Sikl.
Only once before had McTigue
stepped into the ring with a chal

he had boxed ' to an unpopular
draw verdict with Young Stribling
in Georgia. Later he lost news
