Young; People's society gave a
-lother's' day program at Trinity
church Sunday afternoon. : Read
ings were gH en by Mrs. M. O.
Gunderson, Miss Esther Towe,
Miss Agnea Hatteberg and Nor
man Jensen, the latter a repre
sentative of the Boy Scout troop;
Miss Esther Larson sang "Rock
Me to Sleep, Mother," (Leslie),
and as an encore gave "That Won
derful Mother of Mine"; Mrs.
John Goplerud gave two piano se
lections. The Girl Scout troop,
under the leadership of Miss Es
ther Larson, gave a number of
the program. At this time 12
girls were awarded merit badges.
Louise Henriksen and Esther
Towe each was awarded four,
Helen and Martha Thompson each
won three, while the remainder
of the girls "won two or one. The
badges were), given for' schoija'r
s);lp, home nursing, scribe, and
religious knowledge. Girls earn
ing badges were Esther Towe,
Evalyn Solum, Ida Oss, Sylvia

ing. The matter .of p.aclng an
electric lighted sign board on' the
grounds outside of Trinity church
was taken up and a committee ap
pointed to investigate the matter;
On this committee were John
Goplerud, M. C, , Jacobsen, Thea
Jensen. Another matter discussed
was that cf sponsoring, the Luth
eran college band which comes
to Silverton in June. Mrs. M. G
Gunderson, M. C. Jacobsen and
Miss Marie Corhouse were elected
S committee to make arrange
ments. It so happens that a local
boy, George Henriksen,Jr.,- is man
ager ot the band and for this reas
on Silverton can secure a booking.
St. John's YPS will join that of
Trinity in' making arrangements-
It was also announced at the
Sunday meeting that the Girl and
Boy Scout organizations under
Trinity church will make thteir
encampment at Gladstone Park,
near Oregon City, this summer, j
- An invitation for the Silverton
society to meet with, the Brooks
Community club at , Brooks in
June w3 also read. As some of
the members of the Silverton so
ciety are ; planning on going east
in June, and expressed themselves
as desirous of being at Silverton
to attend the picnic at Brooks, a
committee was appointed to make
arrangements for the date. - .-
Silverton's first Oregon Prod
ucts day, held Saturday, 'was very
successful and drew large num
bers of visitors from the sur
rounding communities. The Am
erican flags and the crowds on the
streets gave Silverton a Fourth of
July air. Although there was no
outlined program of parades and
addresses, the visitors and citi
zens found ample Interest in the
various window displays and
"open houses" at the different
business places.
For many the day's celebration
began with the annual Oregon In
dustries dinner served by the Am
erican Legion auxiliary at Trinity
church. This drew over 200 din
ers. The dining room was attract
ive with a profusion of spring

placed on the right side of the
street and the odd numbers on
the left. Main street divides the
city north and south, an.1 Water
street divides it east and west, and
numbering starts from these
points, la each block 25 feet has

died at the home of his daughter,

Mr. Rognas has been a resident
of Silverton for the last five years.
He leaves two daughters. Mrs.
Rogland of Silverton. and Mrs. T.
T. Shell of Wallowa, and two
brothers. '
Melvin Riviness, owner of the
Riviness grocery on North Water
street, has sold his ' business to
Henry Larson and Alvln Legard.
The deal was closed Saturday and
the new owners took over the bus
iness Monday. Mrj Riviness will
remain for two weeks to assist
them' in getting acquainted. At
the end of that time hewiil! go
to Portland for trealment.'his poor
health being. the cause of his sell
ing out.
Mr. Larson has had a number
of years experience in the east,
from where he came but a few
weeks ago. He has been vieitins
at Silverton at the home of .Mrs.
A. O. Legard. Mr. Legard Is a
brother of Otto Legard, one of
the proprietors of the Silverton
Woolen Mills store.
