The order was issued to pro

potato beetle, which Is supposed

potatoes grown in Eastern Oregon.

Good Smaritan ' Hospital at Port
land Monday after an Illness of
live weeks caused by a fall. He

mortuary Wednesday afternoon at
2 o'clock and Interment will be
made at the Silverton cemetery."

served in Salem t next Sunday, Is

people in Salem, according to the
number of telegraph messages and
flower orders that have been filed
with the local telegraph company.
The .Western, Union, has offered
a special service in sending the

year, as has the Postal Telegraph.
The Postal have secured a spe
cially designed letterhead which
will carry the Mother's Day greet

ager, of Portland's new office of
bureau of foreign and domestic
commerce which opens May 15," Is
a former Salem' boy and the son of
Mr. and Mrs. A. W. Peebles, 1085
North Cottage, j He was graduated
from Salem , high school in 1909
and from Stanford university" ", in,
1913. -At one: time he was a pa
per carrier for The Statesman.
Mr. Peebles is familar with the
northwest and Its needs and was
sent to the Portland office from
Seattle, where he was in the dis
trict office for five years Offices
will be In the Oregon building,

The appointment of a district
manager followed a campaign of
10 years waged by the Portland
Chamber of Commerce. A cooper
ative office was opened nearly a
decade ago but the service ; was
not sufficient to meet the demands.
Rosarian Prime Minister
" to Visit Cherrians Soon
S.C Pier, prime minister of
the Portland Rosarians will tell
the Cherrians about the pageant
"Rosaria" to be held in Portland.
The prime, minister will be accom
panied by a number of the Rosar
ians council to a grand feed to be
held here by the Cherrians on May

day morning. The boys also had
