KATIE. 1
There was such sorrowful earn
estness in Jim's honest voice as
he declared his unwillingness to
question Katie concerning the
actions which had sent him ; into
exile that I felt my throat con
strict with rity and admiration
for him. No knisht of romance
could have shown more loyalty io
his liege lady, none could have evi
denced more delicacy andi tender
ness. - - - j i
But' underneath his brave ex

tortures of uncertainty, an agony
of mind which was only I natural
in view of the performances Katie
had staged just before his going
away. I motioned Katie to a
chair near me, drew my own op-
Try Grandmother's Old j Favorite
Kecipe of Sage Tea
and Sulphur. (
Almost everyone knows that
Sage Tea and Sulphur,!: properly
compounded, brings back the
natural color and lustre to the
hair when faded, streaked or gray.
Years ago the only way to get this
Mixture was to make it at home,
which is mussy and troublesome.
Nowadays, by asking at any drug
store for "Wyeth's Sage and Sul
phur 'Compound," you willj get a
large bottle-of this famous o'd
recipe, improved by the addition
of other Ingredients, at a small
cost. . j i
Don't stay gray! Try jt! No
one can possibly tell ' that you
darkened your hair, as it does it
so naturally ' and evenly, You
dampen a sponge or soft! brush
with it and draw this through
your hair, taking one small strand
at a time; by morning the gray
hair disappears, and after; anoth
er application or , two your hair
becomes beautifully darkj; glossy
and attractive. Adv. i !

BICVGLE RIDERS
SET FOR PARADE
Event Will be Staged at 10
O'clock Today Near State
Capitol
AH set; clear, the road!.
Today la the day of the bike.
The one-time "king of the road"
is to have his inning this after
noon. Never before has Salem
had an opportunity to witness
such activity in the bicycle world.
Old wheels and new wheels have
been taken out of basements and
store rooms and oiled up for th
big Salem sociability bike ride and
decorated -wheel parade, starting
at 10 o'clock from the state capi
tal building, on Waverley.
Are you going to be with themf
Old and young, boys and girl
are going to be in line. Experi
enced riders, who rode in the day
when the bike was supreme, 'and
boys who have just received their
first wheel will be (found togethet
in parade.
- On one end of the line will he
found Juveniles their ages rang
ing from four years upwards on
the other end will be older folks
who-did "bicycle courting" some
20 years ago, riding ancient bikes.
Some are decorating their
wheels, but that is not absolutely
necessary. As long as you have
a contraption that will pass as a
bicycle, whether It is new or old.
festooned and bannered, or as it
came from the.factory, you will be
welcome to ride, j
All kinds of machines -from
the tandem to the present type of
bicycles showing! the develop
ment from 1881 to 1925. will be
found in line. Younger folks will
have a chance to see the kinds
of bicycles their dads and mothers
used in their youthful days. Fath
ers and mothers are bringing their
whole families. Many that haven't
mounted a bike In years are wel
coming this opportunity ot getting
out for a forenoon ot healthful
sport.
It is indicated by reports of
local bicycle dealers that consider
able interest has been displayed
in the revival of the bicycle. Get
out your old bike and join in this
j get-together bike ride this after-
jnoon
At Willamette athletic field a
demonstration along safety first
lines will be given by John Rodda
at the end of the ride.
Pictures of the bicycle parade
and prize winners can be secured
at the Kennell-Ellis studio, who
will act as official photographers.
