Elach number is the start of a word. Each white space repre
sents a letter. Look at ithe key printed and see the definition for
the word you seek. Select a word that has the right number of
letters for the space allowed it horizontal or vertical, as the case
may be. Remember the word ends in the square just before the
first black square you reach or at the border of the puzzle. After

entered and there will be a total of ten prizes awarded. The entry gaining the
highest standing wUI be awarded the prist prize in the class in which it Is entered.
For example, if the entry with the highest standing is entered In Class C It will be

diagram as printed. Additional puzzle diagrams will be furnished if requested.

(7) i The person mvring the correct, neatest, legible, as wen as the best slo
gan for the Oregon Statesman, will be awarded the highest standing and will be
awarded the first prize in the class in which they hare qualified and so on till the
ten prizes hare been awarded; Judging of the merit of the entries will be made
without regard to the class in which the entry is entered but; the prizes will be
awarded according to the class in which the entry is entered but the prizes will
be awarded according to the class in which the entry has qualified. ; For example
if the entry has been awarded first standing by the committee of Judges and it is
qualified in Class C. it will be awarded first prize in class C, but if it is qualified,
in class A it will be awarded; first prize in class A, etc.
.(8) More than one person may co-operate In submitting solutions to the
Prize Puzzle but only one prize wiU be awarded to any one household or group
which has been working together.
9) Each puzzle solution must be accompanied by a slogan for The Oregon
Statesman of not more than ten words. , I
(10) Judgment as to the winners win be based on accuracy, neatness, legi
bility and the excellence of the slogan for The Oregon Statesman.
(11) In the event of a tie each tying contestant wUI receive full amount of
the prizes tied foe ' r -:
(12) A committee of three competent Judges will meet on June 15th, 1925,
and announcement of winners made through the columns of The Oregon States
man will be made as soon thereafter sis possible.
(13) All questions or correspondence regarding the puzzle should be ad
dressed to Puzzle Game Manager, The Oregon. Statesman, Salem, Oregon.
(14) The final authority as to the winners and as to any questions that may
arise is The Oregon Statesman.
