There is a traffic problem to stag
ger anyone.
m
Some communities have construe -ted
rough approaches to railroad
cossings to compel the jlcrwirj
down of motor vehicles. Such ap
proaches have frequently resulted in
the breaking of axles with conse
quent legal suits. And such suits
are costly.
4 The whole question of . railroad
ossings is a troublesome one. Of
course, the ideal plan is to have all
crossings underground or overhead.
But this is most expensive. - There
are those who insist that motor cars
shall stop, before crossing a railroad
crossing. ' but statistics show that
many accidents are due to stalling
on railroad tracks.
I A railroad man said recently that
if! the number of motor cars con
tinues to increase as rapidly during
the next five years as it has during
the past: five years, trains will have
to stop, to make sure no motor cars
are approaching.
One Southern traffic expert whd
believes that motor tars should stop
before crossing railroad tracks pro-
poses to . install cross-word puzzle
sign boards at all railroad crossings.
"That will stop 'em," he insists.
Neal O'Hara, of the New York
World, told members of the Na
tional Automobile Chamber of Com
merce that when he was stopped by
an officer for driving his car in the
wreng direction on a one-way street,
he removed his hat and commented
that it was a poor rule that will
not work both ways.
Will Rogers still insists 'that his
plan of having the East-bound traffic
go East on Mondays. Wednesdays
and Fridays and the West-bound
traffic West on Tuesdays. Thursday j
and Saturdays, is the best of all
traffic solutions. Rogers would also
abolish all turns.
