neer and prominent contractor for
the last 2 (-years Mr. Van Patton
died at- his horn Sunday-rooming
at the age of 67 years. He had
been in ill health since October,
1925, and last fall was forced to
resign" from t ho city council .. on

Kansas In 1X90 and some years
later entered Into a partnership

his partner. Hig wife and son, a
daughter Miss-Rath Van Patton

Husband and Two-Children
Survive; Made Home in
Salem Several Years
The death of L.ydia M. Fox, wife
of Glen Fox, was quite a shock to
herfamily and friends. She died
at 4 o'clock Sunday. ' Mrs. Fox had
a most pleasing and sincere per
sonality and she will still lire in
the faith of her many friends. She
did not fear death and during her
illness she never complained, but
with sweet faith laid down to rest.
- She is survived by her husband
and two daughters. Maxine aged
4, j Shirley Jean, aged i two
months. . Also by five sisters and
two brothers: Mrs.' J. ' M. ' Cox,
Cleveland, Ohio; Mrs. Lawrence
Hoffman, Reading, Pa.; Mrs. John
Bauer, Stanley, Wis.; Mrs. Ieabelle
Thuerwachter, Fon Du Lac, Wis. ;
Patton constructed a large num
ber of "buildings in and near Sa
lem. , He built the Polk 'county
court house at Dallas, the Loju
plant,, which .was. originally a
brewery at Salem, the Salem ar
mory, the Derby-Lafky ; building,
the girls' industrial school, the
Willis building on High street, the
old' plant for . the 4 King's Food
Products company; the paper mill
at Salem, the new Vick Bros,
building, the new Salem hospital,
the Eugene , armory, s Hendricks
hall at the University of Oregon
and a number of other buildings.
He had charge of remodeling the
Marion hotel.

R. L, Gray .was fined 15 In the
police court because he let his
dog run at large. . He is the sec
ond man to be brought before the
local court for the violation of the
city ordinance designed to keep
the animals from running at
large. , . - j ' ; --'
.;- The city ordinance, which was
recently revised and passed by the
city council provides that dogs
must be kept on a leash while on
the streets of the city. Exception is
made, howeevr, for animals that
are being used' in driving stock
within , the city, limits. The animal
must be actually employed at the
time the exception is made.
. The police are making a stren
uous effort in getting the law en
forced and, have adopted the prin
ciple of- arresting" the owner of
the dogs instead of arresting and
impounding the animals.

denly Monday morning: : from an
attack of heart- disease while
working at the store. The death
occurred at 4:30 o'clock and the
Illness lasted about 30 ; minutes.
Dickey was observed on. the
floor la a Kitting position by
Emery. James, police officer, who
thought something- was wrong:.
The oficer knocked on the door
and the man got to his feet-after
much effort. lie was able to make
his way to the door by clinging to
the bar-stand and when the door
opened Dickey fell - into the offi
cer's arms. He , was taken to. a
room above the shop, where he
succumbed.
When last seen- Sunday night.
Dickey-was feeling fine and was
not bothered by any sign of sick
nesp. ;
The deceased has been a resid
entr of Salem - for about 12 , years
and is survived by; his son, Ed
ward Dickey, who is with a sur
vey party near Marshfield. Word
of the death has been sent to the
son. Funeral arrangements wiii
be completed after his arrival.

on patterns for a "new cast iron
furnace. They will toe ready the
15th to the 20th of April.
And already a Portland' firm
has bought 400 of the furnaces,
before the first one has been turn
ed out. Mr.' Rosebraugh has been
making steel furnaces- for: several
yea fa, but cast iron furnaces will
be a new j line. This . same - Port"
land concern that has bought 400
of the new cast iron. furnaces yet
to be manufactured will use at
least 200 of the steel furnaces of
the Rosebraugh manufacture" dur
