latest fads among fashionable
young women is to choose an um
brella to match stockings and bat.
In this connection it may be said
that the umbrella departments of
the. London shops are among the
most colorful branches of the busi
ness." Scarlet and emerald hare proved
thus ' far to ' be the, most popular
colors of all, but these shades are
often overlooked by buyers who
insist upon matching their hosiery
and millinery even if the protec
tors from the sun or rain have to
be made to order. V
As to colors generally, especial
ly for women, modistes say that
London has never been as gay
in this respect as it is today. Lon
ger sticks are coming back into
popular usage for umbrellas but
on account of its convenience
dealers say the short umbrella has
come to stay. Some of tbe hand
les o f the longer sticks are en
crusted with colorful china beads,
and are considered very effective,
so far as the eye is concerned, but
from a , practical . viewpoint the
beaded bandied umbrellas are con
sidered merely, one of the early
spring fads, which will soon pass,
because the beads themselves

DUBLIN, March 12. Dublin Is
discussing whether or not it has
a lord mayor, and opposite opi
nions are held. The practice in
the past has been that the lord
mayor holds office until his suc
cessor is appointed, and Lord
Mayor O'Neill believes that, as no
successor has been appointed, he
is still the lord mayor. But the
lord mayor is an official of the
corporation, and there Is now no
corporation.
The entire municipal council
was suspended by the Free State
government, which put in its place
commissioners who are now
actually 1 administering the city
The lord mayor must be an alder
man or councilor, and there arr
now no aldermen or councillors
