G rovers say the discovery Is likely to prove of economic importance. Produc tion of sugar on a largo scale without Irrigation will save much money, now devoted ,to . pumping plant or -gravity canals. According to Mr. Dunn, there are hundreds of thousand of acres of extremely fertile river bottom lands lying wasted in the deltas of the Nayarit which are capable of producing sugarcane without irrigation. The soil is a fine rfver silt and very deep. This allows'' the direct ; penetration of the heavy rainfall of the summer without the usual run-off. . The groand thus la thoroughly satur ated, to. a considerable depth, and a condition of sub-irrigation is found to exist. Ih the experi mental planting he haa obtainea an average yield above thirty tons an acre within a year.' . The refcion is frostless, with a pleasant clim ate. ?
