Drum and Bugle Corps Meet .
The American Legion drum and
bugle corps are' hard at work get
ting in hpe for the state conven
tion next summer at Prlneville,
where the, Salem boys plan to go
for the honors. Each Friday eve
ning the groups meet in the ware
house of Clifford Brown, and prac
tically raise the roof. ;
Broccoli .Crop Damaged
The cB(i freeze of the past win
ter played havoc in the broccoli
crop of thet Umpqua valley, accord
ing to Earl Pearcy of the city wno
has Just finished a trip to Douglas
county. - Railroad men estimate
that the crops have been cut about
600 cars due to the freeae. Al
though the growefs suffered heav
ily, the acreage will be planted
this summer, it is stated.
