The morning session of the legislature-
was almost uneventful.
SB 257 a'biir for an armory atr
-Cottage Grove was recahed but
again defeated. HB 405 by P erce
waa reconsidered and. the size of
the crab changed from seven to
six inches whereupon the bill was
passed. SB vetoed by the
governor and being a bill to cre
ate a new judgship In Multnomah
county and naming Judge Ekwall
for the place, was reconsidered
and paused over the governor's
veto, 25 senators voting in favor
of it.
SB 198 by Senator Staples, abol
ishing the constable in Portland
was also passed over the govern
or's veto. An effort was made to
reconsider HB 351,"killed the day
before, providing for an increase
in salary for the governor's pri
vate secretary but Was defeated
Under third reading of bills, SB
256 by Senator; Dennis calling
for a more explicit statement on
the rates to newspapers was kill
ed. Senator Joseph made an un
necessarily vicious and entirely
gratuitous attack on the" measure.
