MAJOR ADMITS THAT

and at first tried to make out a
case against General White and
Major Thomas E. Rilea. his state
ments and testimony bein? rambl
ing and incoherent, and charging
nothing specific -It was during
the effort of members of the com
mittee to pin him down to definite
and tangible statements that the
man suddenly -broke 'down. th
reports set out, and made the
startling admission that there
really was nothing dishonest; that
the vouchers he was talking about
were really his own Touchers; but
that he had hoped 'to use them to
get revenge because he had been
reduced by the general. Gjed
sttjdt also ' said. ,. under examina
tion, that " General White was
really loser on Ris expense ac
counts, as he did ' not; bother' to
claim reimbursement for money he
spent officially. Gjedstedt said
he had tried to get, the general to
make out his accounts in order
to save him from personal losses
and felt after that it was wrong
for the general to reduce him in
the office.
. Got What He leervcd
. Gjedstedt also told of the loss
of his commission as an officer for
sending out an "open letter" to
various officers In the service, and
burst out with "I'll tell you frank
ly, gentlemen, that I got just what
was coming to me for.. that."
General White was not present
at the hearing,' the report showed,
declining- the senate- committee's
invitation to ansker "Gjedstedt's
statements if he desired.

'.The senate committee's report
is as follows: . '
"Acknowledging your written instruc

there were irregularities In the finance
of the adjutant general's office. We found

Upon tbe request of Mr. Gjedstedt your

We extended to the adjutant general the
opportunity to be present but he express-

the general sUff was present aad Major
Thomas Kites of the National but offered
no testimony inasmuch at said Gjedstedt
by hia own statements disproved and 1

affidavit be had signed niwler date of
February 4tk of the present yeny and had
presented to Governor Pierce ss charges
of Irregularity sgsinat the adjutant gen

which he said should be examined and
gone into, such dste books fasving been
turned over bv him to Governor Pierce, he
said. Questioned ebont these books.
Gjedstedt admitted that they were nothing
but bis personal books and that the only
information in them were pencil notation
he had made himself. It wss sppsrent
from Gjedstedt's ststements that these
"dste books" had no bearing and thst
they were only a part of Gjedstedt s
