members none have indorsed it.

I am. pleased that the press has
exonerated the church as con
demning the morement. Tet it to
a certain extent must be an odium
in the minds of the unthinking.
As to when our Lord will come we
do not profess to know. Our po
sition is the last two verses of
Mark 13. Other places .could be
cited. " We know Jesus will come
again, for He has Bald He would,
but It will not be" "next Friday, nor
next year, but when His work in
heaven is done and ours here on

. Regarding the present legisla
ture and its attiude regarding the
salary raising business and appro
priations tor one thing and an
other. f . i
It seems to me the time is
at hand to stop increasing our
taxes and the only way to stop
increasing them is to stop increas
ing salaries and increasing appro
priations for every one that asks
for it. If our present district at
torneys, judges, etc., can't afford
to donate: their valuable time to
the tune of 14000 per year doubt
less there are other talented law
yers who; could be persuaded to
accept the job. I
I for one, am paying enough
taxes now and there are lots of
other land holders who feel tho
same about it.
Oregon now stands at the head
of the list of states in the United
States in per capita taxation and
if the present legislature wants to
do what ia right it will cut our
tax levy by cutting salaries and
appropriations so that most of the
commissioners and district attor
neys will want to resign. That
would be a good way to consolidate
a lot of our state government a
thing much talked of and little
done.
I for one, say cut salaries and
appropriations lower our taxes
