this time and under the terms of
the supreme court -decision, the
Salem -Fruit Union was virtually
thing of the past. . The largest as

ment oculd be enforced, are the
outstanding factors.
With the new decision the grow
ers think they can pull through,
and thereby are enabled to keep
their building,! which would nave
gone to the Northwest Fruit com
pany, successor to the Phez and
Loju companies." . ,
' If the original ' decision, would
have stood the growers would not
have been able to meet the condi
tions ' imposed, 'and all that the
growers could not have paid would
be forthcoming from the Salem
Fruit Union, hence, all assets
would have been wiped away.
It Is considered likely that a re
hearing of the case will be asked
by the Phez company representa
tives, and efforts made to bave all
the litigations resumed.

Rotary club at their regular meet
ing yesterday at the Marlon ho
tel. ,. .
; Mr. Pim explained the funda
mental principles ihat : undjerlfe
automobile headlights, and the
dangers that have - resulted - with
the increased candlepower lights.
The glare, he stated, was' a new
development in the headlight, and
could not be measured by the hu
man eye. Nevertheless . it .:. is a
serious menace and the cause of
over 14,000 accidents during -the
past year in the United. States.
Of this number a total of tfver
6,000 deaths resulted . from the
injuries received by Individuals.
.The way to increase the effici
ency of the light and to give pro
tection to the j traffic lies in the
manner of refracting the . light
beams, he said.
A media in the form of properly
designed lenses can be used to
throw light In a lateral position,
and to distort! it from the gene
ral parobolic i form, which the
beam usually assumes.
