claim that with the backing of the
Farmers' association and other
agrarian, societies, the Japanese
Fabian society and kindred organ
izatioDS, they have several hund
red thousand potential rotes, and
thus hope to secure representation
in the'lower house at the next na
tional elections. They also claim
that the Suilheisha, a national or
ganization of so-called social out
casts, will join the" new party.
There are paid to be about 800,000
of these men. j
The platform of the new party
is socialistic and sweeping in its
demand for reforms. It includes
an increase in the rights of the
working man, especially In -free
speech and assemblage; adoption
of universal suffrage; a radical
organization of . the j House of
Peers, or its total abolition; jthe
adoption of a graduated scale in
fixing taxes on incomes, land, bus.
