organization In Salem. I '
The drive,which will begin Feb
ruary 9 ami continue until; Feb
ruary 18, U for the purpose - of
carrying on the present relief pro
gram, and to meet the overhead
cost of the Red Cross here. : J
In the vicinity of Salem Be

are given relief and service. :s It
is necessary to have between" $150
and $200 on hand each month, to
care for these cases as they come
to the attention of the officials.

ence to claims, papers and other
matters - of the World, war veter
ans. Sometimes this correspond
ence is carried on over a period
of nine months to one year.
Some of the veterans are in the
Oregon state hospital and other
Institutions and constant attention
must be paid them In order to
protect . their interests and to se
cure attention from -the United
States government. . The military
officials are cooperating i in this
work, but it is necessary to have
some attention from the Red
Cross. It is a big work and covers
a rast territory." '
In .the donations, all i of the
money remains in Salem for use,
but the memberships of the Red
Cross have 50 cents of each mem
bership sent to the general head
quarters. ;V
