W. H. Dorward, 86 yeara" old
and a veteran of the Civil war, has
come to Salem to reside after hav
ing been In Eugene for some time.
It Is claimed that when Lincoln
first ran for president Dorward
cast his vote for! him, and again
after the Civil war. The old timer;
served with a Wisconsin regiment
during the rebellion.
Dorward was 11 years of age
when he came to the United States
from England on a windjammer,
about the only vessels afloat at
that time. ' I .
Despite the age of the veteran
he is able to get around very good
and often takes walks of one' or'
two miles In length. .

cents, but with the assorted 40s
at .8 -cents. He Is not offering
any straight 30s. - It is expected
to push the 30s to 12 cents, be
