Taylor of Lane county, Russell Stevens, a young Eugene man, was brought to the penitentiary to be gin serving a two-year sentence for seduction. I The complaining witness related three different stories to the: district attorney, who refused to prosecute. Gover nor Pierce sent a special prosecut or (o Eugene with the result that Stevens was brought to trail. The offense was said to have been com mitted nearly two years ago and since that time Stevens married and is a young father. Stevens' parents live near Eugene and are old residents of that community. Fulkerson Tuesday. The law provided that for any child unable to attend ; classes - on ac count of permanent illness the county shall set aside a fund equivalent to the per capita "ex pense of tuition. This fund is used to provide some kind of pri vate instruction. Light Extension Proposed Extensions to the present feeder lines of the Portland Electric Pow er company in and near Salem will add about 82 customers, it the proposed extensions are carried out, according to the statement issued from the Salem office yes terday. , An addition to the Sunny side line, which is on the Jefferson road, will add 32 customers. An addition or feeder line from Che mawa to Quinaby will give service to 20 families, and a line from the Mt. Angel feeder through the Lake Labish district will serve about 40 families. These changes have not been made, but conditions are very favorable that they will -be carried out.
