Dr. Hume, distinguished in educational and medical circles. Is at the head- of the Tale and -China hospital and medical school at Chang Fha, and Is the superior under whom Dr. Downs worked while "he was In the Orient, Dr. Hume is a grad uate of Yale University. During the past year be has been con nected with (he medical school at New Haven, i He will be remem bered by many here from ihs lec ture given last fall in Portland. Mrs. David will go via the Cana dian national route, making stops at Lake Louise and at Chicago. Mrs.! Thompson entertained for Mrs. David at din ner. Mrs. David Is the daughter of Mrs. C. T. Mclntire. Her girl hood was spent in Salem where she has a large number of friends who will sincerely regret her go ing. ! I Dr. and Mrs. Carl Gregg Doney and son, Hugh, plan to leave on Wednesday for a year in the east, motoring by way of The Dalles. They will stop at Yellowstone Na tional I park and at Chicago. - In Ohio they will spent some time, and it is possible, the whole win ter, in Columbus. Further,1 their plans are very tentative. If they so decide, the winter may be spent in Cambridge, I Massachusetts, Hugh Doney will be at Harvard again this year. f Prior to her leaving, Mrs- Do ney has been complimented with a number of delightful affairs, tho largest of which was the tea on Thursday afternoon at the home of Mrs. C. Mr. Merritt is assistant commis sioner of national Indian affairs and is on his: official western tour. VMIe this is Mrs. Merritt's first trip to the Chemawa school, Mr. Meritt was here four years ago. Mr. Meritt was well-pleased and interested in the work as it is be ing carried out at Chemawa. On Friday Mr. and Mrs. Meritt accompanied their hosts on a trip up the Columbia highway. Their official tour will extend into other western states.5 1 "'! Entertaining for her two-table bridge club, Mrs. Wallace Bone steeled was a hostess on Fr,iday for the pleasure of Mrs. Dwight Parr, a special guest, and the fol lowing members of the club: Mrs. Lewis Griffith, Mrs. W. Mar iiny, returned home , ! yesterday from Losi Angeles, California, where she has been for the past three months during the death of her father, John Bohannan, and the illness of her mother. Mrs. Maruny, an officer In the local chapter of the Eastern Star, has many friends here who will be glad to hear of her return. . Mr. and Mrs. Zadoc Riggs are leaving this morning for British Columbia, where , at Vancouver they will attend the horse show and races. (Mrs. O. P. Hoff left yesterday morning for Portland where she will make her home. Mrs. Hoff plans to be at the Hoyt-Gleason apartments on east Hoyt and 24th streets. Her many friends j sin cerely regret that she Is leaving Salem. j Mr. and Mrs. Breyman Boise and Mrs. Frank "Snedecpr motored to Portland yesterday to mee Mr. and Mrs. Reuben P. Boise who have returned from a four-months' trip abroad. The Boise's landed in New York on August 2, having taken passage from England on the Acquitania. Of particular interest to their many college friends was the wed ding of Miss Marguerite Cook and David Lawson at the home of the bride's parents, Mr. and Mrs: J. A. Cook, on Wednesday evening. August 6, at 8 o'clock. The cere mony was read by Rev. C. A. Had Iey before a small group of friends and relatives. Miss - Sadie Pratt acted as bridesmaid, - and George Lawson. brother of the groom act ed as best man. The party was preceded by Harold Allen as ring bearer. Preceding the ceremony Lesta Cook Bates sang "At Dawn ing," followed by a duet, "Love Like the Dawn Comes Stealing, by Mr. and Mrs. E. Maldwyn Ev ans. Miss Hilda Blair played the wedding march, accompanied .by Harold Kirk on the violin. Mr. and Mrs., Cook and Mr. and. Mrs. A.' J. Lawson of Blanchard.
