The fund la now being raised. Five thousand dollars was raised at the Multnomah fair and two thousand Jsr availably from th"e Mothers day offering of last spring, and fine location has been secured for a bazaar at the State Fair at Salem next month. It is hoped that every woman who has an interest in the care of homeless children will send at least one article either ornamental or useful for this sale, f Men are not barred from participation in this event and either their owu handiwork or a bit of the "cur rency of the realm will be ac ceptable. These gifts should be sent in as early as possible -md addressed to Mrs. C. P. Bishop, of; Salem who will have general charge of this sale. ! ? Two more additional cows are very much needed also as the nine we now have fai". to meet the demand for milk from the 76 children now In the Farm home. Sad experience prove to ! the members of f the Farm Home Board that unless these children are given home care that it will not be long before a large' propor tion will become a heavy charge ant provision for the delinquents and many dependent children in the past have for lack of provi sion for dependents, been placed with delinquents and naturally have learned their ways, a loss to good manhood and womanhood, and an expense to the state. SALEM IS TALKED 4 T UG C01S I People Beginning to Look j Toward City Linen j Brings Inquiries Salem is one of the most dis cussed cities along the Pacific coast, according to one prominent local realtor. The large amount of building, noticed by tourists as they pass through tha city, the camp grounds and the great fruit industry, all attract attention and as a result ithe fame of the city is broadcasted north and south, i Of particular interest to real tors is the practical assuarnce of a linen mill here, next year. The flax , industry has received much publicity up and down the coast and already realtors are receiving inquiries regarding prospects for work, prices of property and other pertinent questions, j Though things have been a -.lit tie quiet during the summer, other realtors are strong in their belief that business in the next month will pick up to a remarkable ex tent. Rural properties are slowly to the tax payers of the state as moving, but this is haled as a fine delinquents. There is an abund- sign, and shows activity at least. The lack of coning with reference to use, height and bulk of buildings, so as to preclude the creation of traffic congestion, caused by the use of the streets by such building ten ants, especially at morning, noon and evening hours. The , lack - of platting ordinances which would prevent the creation of new subdivisions with streets which are too narrow for ultimate use. The inadequacy of arterial thor oughfares, present and postponed. The lack of a comprehensive plan within which can be included each- of the several creative and preventive measures suggested above. POLLUTED WATERS KILL FISH reports from those who have oli served the traffic conditions in that city. There ia less confusion than was anticipated and one can now drive through the congested district in less time than before. Some of the people in Salem are looking forward to the time when (even with our wide streets) Sal em will need ( to have a on way traffic ordinance. These people expect to see Salem larger than Portland in time. i Wealthy Mine Owner's ' Venture Establishes Town BELFAST, Aug. 9.
