Whple Crop Will Be Four Million Bushels Short PENDLETON, Ore., July 12. Umatilla county's crop of wheat will be but 4,000.000 bushels this year in the' opinion .of.. Henry W. Collins, big grain farmer, dealer and miller of this city. Last year, the crop was 7,000,000 bushels as computed on the basis of ware house receipts. Of., this year's crop virtually all of it will bo fall wheat as the dry ness of the season ruined the spring crops. There are 200.000 acres in the county devoted to' the growing of -wheat and it is figured that this will not yield more man 20 bushels to the acre. .. Over, the entire county harvest will be well under way by July 15 In the opinion of farmers from the' various sections. Many areas' now, have headers and combines in the' field. Tho threshing season is about two weeks' in advance all over the county due to the un-, usual weather conditions through out the year. While the crops will be considJ erably lighter this year it is ex-,' pected that the wheat farmers will come out better than they did last year, as prices are running higher for wheat and lower for necessi ties and for labor. All over the rounty wages will be from one to two dollars a day for each man. The least expenisire branch of government lfthe-'oilvg branch.
